Note: This class will be reading Nurtured by Love. We will NOT be
reading Ability Development From Age Zero even though it is listed in
the Luedke manual.
WEEK ONE: September 25 – October 1: Overview of Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy
1. Class on September 25:
a. Parent Workshop class will view Nurtured by Love DVD 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
b. Class materials will be available
2. This week:
a. Read Ability Development from Age Zero, pages 1 - 30
b. Write out your answer to the Week One questions and email them to your studio teacher
c. Purchase CD and begin listening one hour a day
WEEK TWO: October 2 - 8: Talent is Not Inborn
1. Class on October 2:
a. Receive a copy of the Waddington Listening Form
b. Discuss questions from last week’s reading
2. This week:
a. Observe one private lesson this week as assigned
by your studio teacher; take notes on one of the Observation Sheets and
turn this in to your studio teacher
b. Read Ability Development from Age Zero, pages 31
– 66 and read the article The Philosophic Foundation of the
Suzuki Method at the back of your workbook
c. Write out your answer to questions a and b
on page 4 of the Luedke Manual and e-mail your answers to your studio
teacher
d. Continue listening to the complete CD one hour a
day, and also listen to the Twinkle Variations one hour a day
WEEK THREE: October 9 - 15: All Children Have Talent
1. Class on October 9
a. Discuss Listening Form
b. Discuss the parent’s role in private lessons and group
c. Discuss questions from last week’s reading
2. This week:
a. Observe two private lessons in your studio
teacher’s studio; take notes on Observation Sheets and turn them
in to your studio teacher
b. Read Ability Development from Age Zero, pages 67
– end and read the article The Five Rules for Effective Teaching
at the back of your workbook
c. Write out the answers to the questions on page 5
of the Luedke Manual and e-mail your answers to your studio teacher
d. Fill in a listening chart for this week
WEEK FOUR: October 16 - 22: Every Child Improves Depending on His Parents
1. No Class on October 16
a. Discuss The Five Rules for Effective Teaching
b. Discuss Listening Form and ways you are
discovering to make it as easy as possible to get your listening done
weekly
2. This week:
a. Read The Importance of Parental Role Modeling and
the Impact of Parenting Style on Learning at the back of your workbook
during this week.
b. Write out the answers to the questions on page 6
of the Luedke Manual and email your answers to your studio teacher
c. Observe a private lesson and turn in an observation form
d. Increase your listening to the CD to three hours each day
WEEK FIVE: October 23 - 29: Let the child learn through his senses
1. No class on October 23 (MEA Weekend)
2. This week:
a. answer the questions on page 7 of your Luedke Manual and email them to your studio teacher
b. Read Creating the Desire in your Child is the Parent’s Duty in the back of your workbook
c. Observe a private lesson and turn in an observation form
d. Keep listening at least three hours a day
WEEK SIX: October 30 – November 5: Let the child learn at his own pace
1. Class on October 30
a. Discuss The Five Rules for Effective Teaching
b. Discuss Listening Form and ways you are
discovering to make it as easy as possible to get your listening done
weekly.
2. This week:
a. Observe a private lesson recommended by your studio teacher and complete an observation form.
WEEK SEVEN: November 6 - 12: Let the child stay at a task only as long as he can concentrate
1. Class on November 6:
a. Read Week Seven and Eight materials in the Luedke manual
b. Select a book from the Suzuki library to read and review for the class
2. Parent Panel will discuss their experiences as Suzuki parents
WEEK EIGHT: November 13 - 19: Allow plenty of review and repetition
1. Class on November 13
a. Book reviews by class members
b. Discuss Week Seven and Eight materials
NOTE: The Parent Class ends after November 13. The children of Parent
Class members will begin attending group in Spring Semester, which
begins on January 31. For the remainder of the Fall Semester, continue
bringing your child to observe private lessons, group lessons and
recitals.
